Dan Kain is a feature Reporter for Channel 3 Eyewitness News in central Connecticut. His three-minute segments of “Kain's World” run everyday at 6 pm. He takes an offbeat, satirical look at a range of news topics and items of local interest. When he called about doing a story on the Sawmill, it was an honor to host him for the “unrehearsed shooting.” He and his photographer spent over an hour with us and then selected three minutes to air on his TV slot. You can imagine my surprise when he picked up my Keith Young autoharp and started to pick out a tune. Click Windows Media Player or RealPlayer to view the TV segment that aired 12/17/2001 (these are VERY large files and ONLY suitable for high speed connections). Thanks, Dan. We enjoyed your visit.
Ruth Randle has come to know our family well. She spent a lot of time at the sawmill, and was inspired to write a poem about it. Her impressions, observations and sentiments are very touching. Those of you who own small businesses, or have seen businesses close, or have a long heritage, will appreciate its content. (On a sad note - Mike, our "smiling dog" mentioned in the poem, passed away in 1998.)
